What Makes a Good Alabama Rod
When fishing an alabama rig you want a 7’5″ to 8′ long rod. Heavy action is best but you can get away with medium-heavy if your careful.
The longer length will help you cast further which means your bait is in the water longer. The strong, stout action will give you enough power to pump the large rig without being overpowered by it.
What Line to Use For Alabama Rigs?
Umbrella rigs are large, expensive lures so it is important to use heavier line to avoid breaking off. I use a 65lb braided line with a 25lb mono leader. The braid allows you to cast further while still being sensitive at the longer lengths. The 3-foot mono leader makes your line near the baits less visible and also acts as a shock absorber in case you hook a giant bass.
